In conversation with Mr. Lau Sei Kwong, President, PPPIM.
PPPIM (Malaysia) represents the Advertising Industry in the region and strives for the betterment of the advertising industry along with safeguarding the interest of its members. It is a national federation and is represented by different state associations.
Established in the year 1992, some 26 years ago, the association comprises industry people as members and who include signage makers, advertising printers, suppliers (advertising) etc. The association membership is ever expanding with many related segments adding to it regularly. Various state associations come together at PPPIM for a common goal and mission. Being a national association, it represents the unified strength for taking up issues of interest of different regions and member associations of different states. It plays a pivotal role as a crucial link between industry constituents and the government. For example, with the newly implemented Sales & Service Tax (SST), the association is currently having numerous dialogue with the government (treasury) on the new tax system. It actively negotiated many issues of concern for the industry with the government like, sales tax rates on the advertising industry and also the service tax. The association submitted memorandum to the treasury on the matter and has urged the treasury to address the conflict between various states and custom departments at the earliest.
The association supports the annual IPMEX exhibition in Malaysia. Besides, the members benefit by getting better exposure and business opportunities through various activities and events by the association. Also, advertising companies and other customers deem the association members as more reliable to get their products and solutions requirements answered.
The advertising industry is quite different from other industries and this is also what makes it more important, says Mr.Lau Sei Kwong, the newly appointed President of PPPIM. “Advertising industry plays a vital role in city planning and consequently contributes to building the image of the city,” says Mr. Lau Sei Kwong. “Advertising industry is constantly changing / improving as newer technologies are being introduced to the industry regularly. What makes the industry unique is the fact that it needs to work closely with the local government,” he sums up.
